CGHS Hospital Empanelment Validity Extended Till 15 August 2026 — Here's What Changed
If you're a CGHS beneficiary and you've been hearing chatter about hospitals "losing empanelment," here's the actual update, straight from the Office Memorandum dated 16th July 2026.
CGHS Headquarters has extended the validity of empanelment for existing empanelled Health Care Organisations (HCOs) till 15th August 2026. This is a follow-up to an earlier OM dated 1st July 2026, which had already pushed the deadline once for hospitals to execute their Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with CGHS.
In plain terms: the hospitals you're currently using under CGHS aren't going anywhere just yet. The paperwork behind the scenes is still being sorted out.
Why the Extension Was Needed
This all ties back to something called HEM 2.0 — the second, revamped version of the Hospital Empanelment process CGHS has been rolling out. Anytime a system this large gets an overhaul, there's a backlog: applications to check, MoAs to sign, bank guarantees to verify, and portal approvals to push through.
Rather than let existing hospitals fall out of the CGHS network mid-transition (which would've been a nightmare for patients relying on cashless or reimbursement treatment), the Director of CGHS, Dr. Satheesh Y.H., approved a further extension so the process doesn't disrupt ongoing treatment for beneficiaries.
What the OM Actually Directs
The memo isn't just a date extension — it also lays out exactly what needs to get done before 15th August 2026. All Additional Directors across CGHS zones have been told to make sure the following is wrapped up for every eligible hospital:
- Scrutiny of pending applications
- Resolving queries that hospitals or applicants have raised
- Physical verification of hospital facilities, wherever required
- Execution of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)
- Verification of the Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) submitted by hospitals
- Final approval of empanelment on the CGHS portal
So this isn't an open-ended delay — there's a hard internal deadline attached to it, and CGHS zonal offices are expected to clear the backlog by mid-August.
Who This Applies To
The OM specifically covers existing CGHS empanelled Health Care Organisations — meaning hospitals and diagnostic centres already in the CGHS network before this HEM 2.0 transition began. It doesn't (as of this memo) speak to new hospitals seeking fresh empanelment.
The memo has been circulated widely — CGHS Wellness Centres have been asked to put it up on notice boards, and it's meant to be published on the official CGHS website (www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in) as well.
What You Should Do as a Beneficiary
Honestly — nothing urgent. If you were getting treatment at a CGHS empanelled hospital before this OM, that hospital's empanelment stays valid at least till 15th August 2026. There's no action needed on your end.
That said, it's worth keeping an eye on the CGHS website closer to mid-August. If any hospital doesn't complete its MoA and verification in time, its empanelment status could change once this extension period ends. We'll update this page if that happens.
