How do I book a Sainik Rest House in Assam?

Ring the Zila Sainik Welfare Office for the district you are travelling to — the numbers are listed against each rest house above. There is no central online booking for Sainik Rest Houses. Requests are accepted a maximum of 15 days in advance, and no one may stay more than 7 days at a time within a 6-month period. Carry your Ex-Servicemen Identity Card, discharge book or serving ID at check-in.

What does a Sainik Rest House in Assam cost?

Charges are fixed by the Rajya and Zila Sainik Boards, and are broadly ₹100–₹300 a night for officers, ₹50–₹150 for JCOs and ₹30–₹100 for a dormitory bed for other ranks. Ex-servicemen with more than 50% disability, 'Vir Chakra' series awardees and Arjuna awardees are entitled to rent-free accommodation, though air-conditioning charges still apply. Carry your Ex-Servicemen Identity Card, discharge book or serving ID; dependants and widows should carry the dependant card or PPO with proof of relationship.

Remember that a Sainik Rest House is not an Army, Navy or Air Force guest house. Service guest houses, transit facilities and messes sit inside cantonments, are controlled by the unit or station headquarters, and have no public booking line — they are arranged through your parent unit. The Sainik Rest House network, run by the civil Sainik Boards, is the facility open to the whole ex-servicemen community. Defence pensioners are additionally eligible for the Central Government holiday homes, which cover tourist destinations the SRH network does not reach.
